Welcome to the Zakat Chicago website!

Zakat Chicago is the website of the Central Zakat Committee of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC).

This website is designed to make the calculation and payment of Zakat-al-maal, or wealth-based charity (commonly referred to as Zakat), easy for every Muslim. All of the Zakat and Sadaqah collected by Zakat Chicago will be distributed locally in the Greater Chicagoland area.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is the prescribed share of one’s wealth one owns, possesses, and holds for one lunar year, provided the wealth is equal to or above a minimum amount called Nisab. This Zakat is to be shared with the needy of the community as prescribed by Shari’ah. We are promoting the local collection and distribution of Zakat.
