The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago welcomes you to the CZC Zakat website. This site is designed to make calculation of Zakat-al-maal, or wealth-based charity (commonly referred to as Zakat) easy for every Muslim.

NOTE: This website does not accept Zakat ul-Fitr payments – please contact your local Masjid for the payment of Zakat ul-Fitr.

  • Zakat is obligatory on every Muslim
What is Zakat?

Zakat is the prescribed share of one’s wealth one owns, possesses, and holds for one lunar year, provided the wealth is equal to or above a minimum amount called Nisab. This Zakat is to be distributed to the needy as prescribed by Shari’ah.

How can you use this facility?

  • You can learn more about Zakat, its importance, rules, and explanations, by clicking on the Zakat FAQ link (Frequently asked questions) provided in the menu bar.


  • You can calculate your Zakat by clicking on Zakat Calculation link in the menu bar. While you are actually using the Zakat Calculation option, you can click on the links provided throughout the entry sheet for answers to specific related questions.


  • After you calculate your Zakat, you can print the results, and distribute the Zakat yourself


  • Alternatively you can opt for CZC to distribute a part or all of your Zakat. CZC will follow the rules of Shari'ah under the guidance of Islamic scholars in distributing Zakat.


  • You can apply for assistance for Zakat by clicking on the Apply for Zakat link in the menu bar.

Some of the local Muslim community projects supported and funded by the Central Zakat Committee include:

  • Food Pantries

  • Womens' Shelters

  • Elderly Assistance

  • Underprivileged Family Emergency Fund (burials, deaths, rent, utilities)

  • Weekend Islamic Schools in Underprivileged areas

  • Medical Clinics and Health Care for Uninsured

  • Minority Community assistance


  • Summer Camp scholarships for underprivileged youth


  • Half-way House for Prisoners and Rehabilitation Projects
